Project Details: The new $98 million, 1,978-seat Music Center at Strathmore, is the second home for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and welcomes performers from the Washington Performing Arts Society and other music performance groups from around the world. A custom brass architectural mesh was selected for the interior walls of the Music Center. It functions as a rich decorative barrier, laid over a heavy draping material used to control acoustics. Solid wood frames of maple and birch support the mesh. The Music Center has become a cultural hub for the area since its opening performance in February 2005. The 190,000 square foot concert hall connects to a cafe, banquet facilities and a 21,000 square foot Arts Education Center with four rehearsal rooms, offices and other teaching facilities.
